PROPS PLEASE with Nikki

props please.jpg

This workshop is focused on the benefits of using props whether you’re just starting out or for practitioners who have been showing up to the mat for years. Most of the time props are thought to be inferior, overlooked completely or used mainly for restorative practices; however, that is not true. Props give the practitioner the ability to get into poses safely and assist in tactical feedback of body information and bringing the ground to you for a more stable rooted foundation. Come explore the many uses of props in common poses and don’t be afraid or intimidated to use them from now on after you realize the benefits of adding them to your practice.

AHHHHH RESTORATIVE with Nikki

Restorative blue baddha.png

A restorative yoga practice is essential in tying the physical, mental and emotional together.
Asanas (postures) are held upwards of ten minutes being fully supported by props allowing the body to release tension. Most people find it difficult to keep the mind still or void of thoughts especially during stressful times. This is nearly impossible; however, the practice of recognizing what thoughts pop up and flow, letting the body be supported by and release into props and being open to letting emotions and energy flow is key. During a restorative practice, the parasympathetic nervous system is activated which releases blocked energy and emotions from certain areas sometimes resulting in crying or other physical responses. This practice is designed to cleanse and reboot the body by relaxing and refreshing the body and mind.

That’s Fascianate-Yin! with Nikki

Fascinate YIN.jpg

Yin yoga works deeply into the body by targeting the connective tissues such as ligaments, joints, and fascia. A yin practice is most beneficial when the body is cool or not warmed up in order to access the deeper tissues instead of relying on the muscles. Unlike the more traditionally known Yang asanas (poses), Yin postures are held for one to five minutes allowing the body to soften into the pose creating space in the body. Props such as blankets, blocks, bolsters and straps may be used to help the individual settle into a pose. Because asanas areheld for an extended period of time, the mind will ultimately be challenged as well. This practice is meant to help stretch and lengthen the muscles and connective tissues creating more flexibility in the body and expanding the mind.

Yin and Yang With Nikki and Staci

Yang is the counterpart to Yin.  One cannot exist harmoniously without the other to balance it out.  Some characteristics of Yang are active, fire, strength, masculine, energetic, courageous and excitement. A few attributes of Yin include passive, cold, softness, feminine, docile, consuming and slowness.

Yin and Yang.jpg

Staci and Nikki are a dynamic duo that will first educate you about the benefits of each practice and why it’s important to incorporate it into everyday life. Following the educational presentation of this workshop, Staci and Nikki will lead you in two seperate practices; Yin and Yang.

During the Yang portion of this workshop, Staci will guide you through a heating dynamic vinyasa flow that will tone your body, increase endurance, and improve energy levels.  You will get in touch with the masculine side of yourself focusing on your breath and improving your circulation while spreading prana (energy) throughout your body.

To balance out the Yang, the second half of this workshop Nikki will lead you through a Yin practice to bring you inward and focus on the breath and mind while keeping the body in asanas (poses) for extended periods of time.  As one begins to settle into the stress of the connective tissues in the body, the mind and ego will be challenged; hence the balancing aspects of this practice. Upon completion, Staci and Nikki will then recap the health benefits of why it’s important to incorporate both Yin and Yang aspects in everyday life and answer any questions pertaining to your experience.

Please bring a notebook and a writing utensil to write down any information you want to remember and to reflect on how each practice felt in your body.

Food as Medicine with Rebecca Quackenbush

Food as medicine.jpg

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” -Hippocrates

We are spiritual beings living in a material world, and food is our fuel.
There is an industry built around people not being well, yet we have more control over our health than we may realize. And what we eat has a profound effect on how we feel.
In this interactive workshop we will explore the growing concept of “Food as Medicine.” Take comfort in knowing that there is no one size fits all model of nutrition, and so we will get right at the heart of all diets-the food! I assure you that you will never see that stalk of broccoli the same again! By reframing how we look at the items on our plate, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities that reach far beyond deliciousness and into health, healing, and longevity.

Come explore with me! Plenty of time will be set aside for personal reflection and goal setting.  Please bring along a journal and something to write with.

In addition, you will walk away with a tool box bursting with ingredients for your own personal prescription for wellness.

Workshop = $35. To register, click HERE and go to our workshops page.

Rebecca is a Certified Holistic Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. As an advocate for and living proof of Food as Medicine, she aims to educate and empower others to heal and feel their best.

Fundraiser for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) with Charleen

Suicide Prevention.jpg

Join me as we raise awareness to help stop suicide.  My high school girlfriend lost her mom to suicide.  This June 16th will be her 11th time walking in the “Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk”. This year it’s being held in Philadelphia, PA.  She will walk 18 miles overnight from sundown to sunrise to bring awareness to suicide prevention, bring the stigma of depression out of the darkness, and raise money for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
“I want to someday think about my mom's life without dwelling on the circumstances of her death. I want to speak about suicide honestly and transparently, without any sense of stigma or guilt attached.  I want to find my own peace, help others find theirs and stop people from dying by suicide.”

Suicide kills more Americans than car accidents.  Suicide kills more veterans than soldiers are killed in combat.  Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students and persons aged 15-24 years, and the 3rd for youth ages 10-14. Please help me put an end to these scary statistics!

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Mission
Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide
To fully achieve its mission, AFSP engages in the following Five Core Strategies:
•    Fund scientific research
•    Offer educational programs for professionals
•    Educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention
•    Promote policies and legislation that impact suicide and prevention
•    Provide programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people at risk, and involve them in the work of the Foundation. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Phone Number   1-800-273-8255

Meditation, Mantras, and Malas With Tricia Zoldak

Tricia Capture.JPG

Join Tricia Zoldak for a fun workshop where you’ll learn how to make and use your very own mala to serve as a talisman for prayer and meditation, and to wear as a reminder of an intention you will set during the workshop. You will learn a little bit of the history of Malas, the importance of meditation and mantras, and you will have a chance to find the perfect mantra for yourself. You will leave with a beautiful Mala you have created yourself set with your own personal intention, along with knowledge of how to use it.

A Mala is a garland of 108 beads plus one bead as the Guru bead. Malas are traditionally used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra. Wearing a Mala can serve as a daily reminder of what you are trying to manifest in your life at that particular time. Workshop = $70. Click here to register and go to our workshops page.

Tricia began the regular practice of yoga in 2014 and received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification in May of 2015 from the Body Art Barn in Blooming Grove, NY. She then went on to receive her 500 hour certification in 2016 from the Body Art Barn and is currently enrolled in another 500 hour certification at Happy Buddha in Goshen. Yoga, meditation, and chanting has become an integral part of life for Tricia and has helped in dealing with the common yet difficult stresses and obstacles of life. Her goal is to bring yoga and meditation in an easy and accessible way so that even a complete beginner can utilize these practices in their life.

WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki (pronounced “Ray-kee”) is a simple and powerful hands-on healing technique that creates balance and harmony within mind, body, and spirit. The word “Reiki” comes from two Japanese characters or kanji. The top character “Rei” means “universal soul or spirit” and “ki” means “energy.” Together the two words represent “universal life-force energy.”

As a healing method, Reiki uses an energy transmittal system in which the Reiki practitioner draws energy from the universe and then transfers this energy through the hands to the self or another. Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual blocks are dissolved with Reiki, bringing people greater health and overall wellbeing. Reiki works with the body's innate wisdom to facilitate healing where and how it is needed.

Dare to Live an Extraordinary Life with Char O'Connor: A Women's Health Series

char with type over photo.jpg

Let's talk about breast health! Our breasts are intimately connected to a woman's overall well being. In this workshop, we will examine how our breasts affect our health, as well as our body, mind and spirit.  Breasts serve a purpose in every phase of a women's life, from menses through menopause and are intimately connected to all of our  physical passages in profound ways. One in eight American women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, yet very little is taught regarding prophylactic care. The encouraging news is, according to recent medical research, yoga is believed to be a powerful tool for obtaining breast health. When we expand the heart center and engage in twists through yoga, we are unclogging lymphatic pathways which increases circulation that supports the  lymphatic system and facilitates optimal immune function.

Join Char O'Connor for an evening of yoga for breast health. We will begin with a short discussion on making healthy lifestyle choices relating to breast health. We will then move into a beautiful yoga class centered around breast health. We will explore  specific yoga poses that are geared to promote the optimal function of the lymphatic system and overall well being. This workshop is appropriate for all levels and ages.

Char O'Connor is a yoga instructor, life coach, RN and a stage 3 breast cancer survivor and has devoted her life to helping people. Trained in body, mind, spirit coaching, Char provides and all encompassing personal experience through her yoga practice and open and interactive discussion that are relevant to issues facing women today.

Your own creations will then be used during a short intentional meditation, followed by mindful movement led by Nikki. This workshop is meant to bring the community together with the power of positive intentions, an interest in creating a meaningful piece of artwork and the openness to learn about the luminous celestial body that hangs in our sky. NO previous experience in painting or yoga required. The cost of the workshop includes all supplies and the yoga practice. Please pre-register to guarantee your spot. Workshop = $60. To register, click HERE and go to our workshops page.

About the Artist:Jules Coneen is an artist native to the Hudson Valley. Her artistic roots stems from childhood and she started rock painting after leaving the corporate world a couple years ago while she was going through some difficult times. She found it gave her a sense of relaxation, calmness and expression of emotion through color. Each rock is painted with colors based off of vibes she’s feeling that day. The river stones were hand selected from the Esopus River that runs through the original Woodstock New York! The homeland of peace and love. With her artistic expressions not limited to designs on rocks, Jules creates mini masterpieces on glassware, wood products, and other randomness that she considers a blank canvas, as well as commissioned work. In addition, she illustrated a children’s book “Where Fairies Come From” (book one of a continuing series) a decade ago which was recently published. Jules is a believer in what you put out into the universe you will receive back and she’s grateful to share her talents and colorful perspective with others.

Prema Breathwork Workshop with Jon Kameen

Prema Breathwork no date on bottom.jpg

Breath and Consciousness are intimately interwoven. As we breathe more deeply into our bodies, we are inviting awareness into parts of ourselves (or our past) that have long been stored away. As we bring awareness to the areas that have been hidden, our bodies innate healing abilities kick in; we release what has been holding us back, and we step closer into our full potential.
The process itself uses very simple means: with the eyes closed and lying on a mat, each person uses their own breath with this technique along with the music in the room to enter a non-ordinary state of consciousness. This state activates the natural inner healing process of the individual’s psyche, bringing him or her a particular set of internal experiences. With the inner healing intelligence guiding the process, the quality and content brought forth is unique to each person and for that particular time and place. While recurring themes are common, no two sessions are ever alike.
Many practitioners feel this breath work provides a direct, replicable, physical experience of Divine Love through the saturation of the body with Prana.

“Practice in Perception” Illustrated and Instructed by Marina Caceres

In this workshop Marina illustrates the web of connection between asana, the physical practice of yoga, to the off the mat practice, sadhana, through the power of perception. Yoga has two limbs of eight known as the yamas and the niyamas.
Who: All levels- Open Practice
When: Friday April 6th From 6pm-8pm
Where: Happy Buddha Yoga
What You’ll Need: Yourself, a Notebook and a Pen.

Practice in Perception.jpg

There will be a one hour and 15 min from 6-7:15pm class including postures that are directly correlated to body areas such as shoulders and hips where mobility is hindered due to tension acquired from stressors and stationary movements. From 7:15-8pm will be open dialogue and self-inquisition around how our perception affects every part of our lives on and off of the mat. The power of perception is a choice that is made around every action and reaction to the world around us. Perception can often be driven emotionally, however; with a powerful practice, perceptions with fundamentally negative outlooks can be shifted. Here we offer language and identity of this vast topic through exploration of the yamas or ethical disciplines and niyamas or individual disciplines. Most importantly we will have fun in taking the sweetest approach in understanding our great wild minds and bodies.

A Special Evening Dedicated to Caregivers with Charleen & Riley

We have heard the adage, you can’t pour from an empty cup. This is your opportunity to fill your cup.

yoga for caregivers.jpg

Some of us are called upon to take care of someone we love, a child, parent, spouse, sibling etc.  Some of us are paid to do this work, some are not.   Regardless of the circumstances, most caregivers have at least one thing in common; they tend to forget or not have time to take care of themselves. While caring for others is important, we can only care for others as well as we care for ourselves.
This will be an all levels candlelight class, with gentle movement, restorative postures, balancing breathwork, guided meditation, reiki all followed with a refreshing snack.

Let us care for you and fill your cup
Join Charleen & Riley for this very special evening dedicated to what YOU need.

MEDITATION MADE SIMPLE WITH STACI

meditation made simple with Staci.jpg

Meditation is something most of us know we should all be doing regularly, but where do you start? Meditation can provide you with numerous benefits including destressing, a calmer mind, physical and emotional relaxation, and appetite control to name a few. Sometimes the thought of sitting still for an extended period of time is daunting but usually that fear stems from lack of knowledge of what and how to properly meditate. This workshop is designed for anyone who is interested in starting their own meditation practice or for those of you who already have a practice and would like to learn some new techniques and fun facts about mediation. We will be doing some light stretching, relaxation, and breath work. No experience is required. Bring a notebook and pen to take notes. Winter Renew and Recharge with Riley

winter renew and recharge with Riley.jpg

Recovery has been built into our yoga practice since the beginning of time (traditions such as savasana). We live in a fast paced world that encourages busyness and seldom stresses self-care or stillness. Join Riley for a candlelit workshop of turning inward, making peace and coming home to your body as it is in this exact moment.
We will begin to wash away the outside world with some gentle movement and optional aromatherapy. Moving through a restorative yoga practice (said to be one of the most therapeutic yoga practices, using props to support the body and mind with comfort and ease in order to encourage health and healing.)
We will focus on encouraging feelings of safety, comfort, ease and recovery after those long harsh winter months- clearing out emotional and mental sludge to make space. Ending with Yoga Nidra practice and a writing reflection.

Meditation, Mantras, and Malas with Tricia Zoldak

mala-beads.jpg

A Mala is a garland of 108 beads plus one bead as the Guru bead.  Malas are traditionally used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra. Wearing a Mala can serve as a daily reminder of what you are trying to manifest in your life at that particular time.
